Hazard Identification Workshop - A Key Project Milestone
🚀 April 2026 Update:
GoLink Advisory Group recently convened a Hazard Identification (HAZID) workshop in support of the GoExpress programme, focused on the proposed 90mph intermodal trial operation of Freightliner Ltd's wagons and Rail Operations Group state of the art Class 93 locomotives from Stadler.
Facilitated by Risktec Solutions in Derby, the workshop brought together a genuinely impressive cross-section of rail industry expertise to identify and evaluate the reasonably foreseeable hazards associated with increasing the maximum operating speeds of certain intermodal wagons, and to begin shaping the mitigating actions and safety requirements that will underpin the trial.
We were fortunate to have expert contributions from:
University of Birmingham (Aerodynamic Research)
Huddersfield Institute of Railway Research (IRR)
Freightliner Ltd
Rail Operations Group
Network Rail
MoniRail Ltd
Risktec Solutions
Wabtec UK
Robust hazard identification is a cornerstone of safe change management in rail, and sessions like this - where academic research, operational experience, vehicle engineering, infrastructure expertise and risk management specialists sit around the same table - are exactly how the industry moves forward safely and responsibly.
Huge thanks to all who attended and contributed. The outputs will feed directly into the hazard record and safety case work supporting the next phase of the GoExpress programme.
