We unlock new infrastructure revenue by connecting surplus high-speed rail capacity to express demand.

GoExpress creates a new express logistics market for the GB rail industry - by introducing higher speed intermodal rail services with a maximum operating speed of 90mph, GoExpress is connecting underused rail capacity, low carbon modern traction and digital operations with high-value logistics demand.

We reposition rail based logistics as a competitive solution for time-sensitive flows, within the wider ecosystem of road, short sea shipping, ocean transportation, associated logistics hubs and last mile deliveries.

Rail Industry Benefits.

By enabling faster, lighter and more frequent services, we help infrastructure managers, operators and lessors grow revenue, whilst improving asset utilisation.

Learn more about these benefits below.

  • GoExpress is contributing to the broader decarbonisation goals by supporting the transition away from diesel‑only traction in rail operations.

The UK has set an ambition to remove all diesel‑only trains from the network by around 2040 as part of its net‑zero rail goals, recognising that rail logistics traction will need to shift to a mix of zero‑carbon technologies such as electric, hydrogen or battery power to meet this commitment.

Through the use of innovative state of the art Class 93 tri-mode locomotives, GoExpress is able to reduce carbon emissions by up to 95%.

  • GoExpress unlocks additional network capacity by reducing sectional running times (STRs) needed for intermodal rail services. This reduces the number of pathing conflicts on mixed-traffic routes, enabling trains to operate a higher average speeds.

Higher-speed, more consistent logistics performance enables more efficient timetable planning.

On selected routes, GoExpress (working with our industry partners) has uncovered additional capacity for up to one additional high-speed intermodal service per hour, without requiring any major infrastructure investment.

  • GoExpress is directly supporting the development of the Rail Technical Strategy’s 2040 “Freight Friendly” vision by directly supporting objectives 1–5.

Enabling faster, more reliable intermodal rail logistics services will improve network capacity and path utilisation. It also enhances service performance and customer confidence, whilst supporting the decarbonisation of logistics through the use of electrified rail offering up to 95% lower carbon.

GoExpress also accelerates innovation by trialling new operating models and technologies, strengthening system integration between logistics and passenger operations, and building compelling commercial cases that underpin long-term, sustainable growth in rail based logistics across the network.

  • GoExpress is helping to drive progress toward the UK’s ambitious goal of increasing rail logistics volumes by at least 75% by 2050, as set by the Department for Transport and GB Railways Transition Team.

We will achieve this by piloting high-speed intermodal services that shift more volume on rail, unlocking new markets, new customer demand and demonstrate the commercial viability of faster, more efficient rail based middle mile corridors such as Midlands-Scotland.

By partnering with key logistics and industry stakeholders, running trials in a live rail environment, and highlighting the environmental and economic benefits of rail-centric supply chains, GoExpress supports modal shift, boosts industry confidence, and contributes to the broader structural changes needed to achieve the goal of a 75% growth in rail logistics volumes by 2050.

  • GoExpress is directly supporting Transport Scotland’s Scottish Ministers’ High Level Output Specification (HLOS) target by facilitating an 8.7% growth in net tonne kilometres for rail logistics in Control Period 7 (CP7) across the Scottish rail network.

Crucially, this increase is being delivered within the existing network capability, without requiring additional infrastructure enhancements.

  • "GoExpress' high-speed rail logistics project promises to set new standards for the sector - boosting efficiency, cutting carbon, supporting economic growth, and giving businesses a competitive edge. We are excited to see the innovation and positive impact it will deliver."

    - Johnny Schute OBE - Chief Operating Officer, Rail Safety Standards Board

  • "If we do the same thing all the time, we will not see change, we need to try something different to see real change. Faster Freight is that!"

    - Monica Gerber, Advanced Timetable Manager, Network Rail

  • "Faster freight services have the potential to unlock significant productivity gains by enabling better integration with passenger timetables, make more efficient use of available network capacity and increases asset utilisation which in turn reduces the costs of rail based logistics."

    - Maggie Simpson - Director General, Rail Freight Group
